Coco Chanel by Lisa Chaney
1) You read about an entrepreneur:
- What surprised you the most?

What surprised me the most about Ms. Chanel is that she opened her first shop in 1910 this surprised me because most women back in the day weren’t running their own businesses.
- What about the entrepreneur did you most admire?

I admire her for being about to make simplicity the fashion, she turned the black mourning color into a chic black dress. She was able to make new women suits making the skirts tighter and collarless.
- What about the entrepreneur did you least admire?
 - Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it?

Ms. Chanel had a small shop open in 1910 however during World War 2 the shop closed down that was in 1930. She decided to make a comeback in 1950 with critics against her she ended up being now one of the biggest names in fashion.
2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited?
I notice that Ms. Chanel was confident and with it was able to believe in herself and that’s how she was a successful fashion icon. Another thing Ms. Chanel was is creative and simple one of her first thing she was successful for was turning a jersey into a dress.
3) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
One part of the reading that was confusing was how she was able to start up again after World War 2.
4) If you were able to ask two questions to the entrepreneur, what would you ask? Why?
            1. Would you rather of opened a shop at this time or not change a thing?
I would ask this because now with the internet would she think it would be an advantage or not.
            2. Was your passion always fashion or was it just something you wanted to make career out of?
I asked this because when she was younger, she was put into sewing classes so is that where her passion formed.
5) For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur's opinion was of hard work? Do you share that opinion?
I think Ms. Chanel meaning of hard work to believe in yourself and things will happen, because if she didn’t believe in herself after her shop closed down and she never opened up again the fashion industry wouldn’t be the same.
Carly, I think you did a very good job on your reflection and really was able to describe your opinion of Coco Chanel. I find it very interesting that she owned her own business in 1910, given that this was extremely uncommon at the time. I believe that her competencies that you identified played a huge role in how successful Chanel has become since first starting the company. Between confidence and hard work she was able to start a company that truly revolutionized fashion.
ReplyDeleteHello Carly! I think your reflection regarding the biography of Coco Chanel was well said. Coco Chanel’s actions that went against societal norms at the time were greater than just opening and running her own business. It’s incredible that she was able to do so, but the designs of her clothes in themselves were a breakthrough in women’s clothes, as showing skin back then was so taboo. Her entrepreneurial mindset is nearly as prominent as her ability to revolutionize the women’s fashion industry.
ReplyDeleteHey Carly,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job of describing the book and your opinions regarding Coco Chanel. I think it is really interesting how she was such an innovator at a time when women did not have many rights, and I think she definitely helped pave the way for women of the future. I think her answers to both your questions would be very interesting. Good post!
