Vaping has increased over the years especially in high schools and we need to do something to stop it. We have seen this trend before i.e. cigarettes they came in and everyone smoked them not thinking of the long-term effects now knowing them we should raise all tobacco use to 21 therefore taking it away from the youth.
For this interview I interviewed a high school teacher and she believes in raising the age. She said that over the past three years all the kids are trying to vape saying some can’t even sit through a class without going to the restroom to vape. She knows there is a need to increase the legal age. The second person that I interviewed is my friends’ little brother, Ethan, who is in high school, and he said that’s what everyone does in school is try and get away with smoking there vapes. He said that they even put in a smoke shop right by the high school because of the increase in demand. Ethan isn’t a vaper, but a lot of his friends are, and he believes that they should raise the age to 21 for health sakes. Last person I interviewed was a 40-year-old vaper who has kids. Michelle started vaping when she quit smoking cigarettes and says the vapes helped a lot when she tried to stop smoking cigarettes. She doesn’t agree with banning vapes because they are an alternative to smoking, but she does agree with making the age to 21 because she is aware of the increase of teens owning vapes.
After I interviewed my three subjects all three agreed that there is a need to increase the age to 21. Smoke shops are targeting teen because they know where the demand is and that says a lot about vape companies. There is no doubt that vaping has increased in the younger generation now we had to make a stop in it for the health of teens. America needs to raise the age to 21.
Hi Carly,
ReplyDeleteMany states have already raised the minimum age to buy tobacco products to 21. My home state New Jersey adopted this law a couple of years ago and Florida is in the process of adopting this law. I agree that the age should be raised at a federal level so that the age required to purchase tobacco and vapes is consistent throughout the country.
Hey Carly,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a good job selecting who you interviewed. You showed that teen vaping is a problem, yet it still helps adults who want to stop smoking eventually. I agree that the minimum age to buy vaping products should be 21 and think it would help with the teen vaping epidemic. Many states are working on raising the age to 21, but it would be in their best interest to work quickly. However, this change will not completely wipe out all teen vaping.
