30A Final Reflection

Nov 25, 2019
In the begging of the semester is always a stressful time remember what all the classes expectations are and how the course is going to go and that didn’t fail with this class. I was very confused at the beginning because I have never taken a class like this one with having to post blog weekly and going in with the fear of not knowing how to blog right. This class taught me a lot and that’s solely because of blogging. Having a platform where the assignments aren’t supposed to be structured in any way and having the freedom to be creative and being able to connect to other students was really awesome. Years from now when I am reminiscing on my college years this class will stick by me because I will have used in my decision making and using tools form this class to analyze opportunities to see the worth of choice. I defiantly don’t consider myself an entrepreneur however I don’t see it as an impossible goal after taking this class. Now I believe that being an entrepreneur can be anyone and you have to understand that there are always opportunities and to keep your eyes open and never be scared to fail. The one recommendation I have to a future student is to have fun with this class. It’s an easy class if you stay on top of your work and watch the lectures. The mindset I say they foster in coming to this class is an open mind and be creative and being different is cool.

29A-Venture Concept No. 2

Opportunity
The is no denying the increase of smokers vaping and using e-cigs especially with vaping companies targeting teens and young college students. The opportunity is to raise the age of smoking tobacco all of the United States to the age of 21 to prevent health issues and stop the younger population from using them. The is for sure a need to stop the use of vaping by increase the age with teens becoming very sick and others have died from some sort of electric vape. The people who have the need to raise the age is parents of vapers and teachers who see how addicted they are and how quickly they have become popular. The environmental factors that have made vaping how big it is, is how the vaping companies are targeting and making them for. Vaping companies know where to shops and know how to make fruity flavors that will attract the younger crowd with a sleek look. The results were a huge increase in vaping in the younger population who have never been addicted to tobacco. The market is targeting young college students there are over 25 vape shops in Gainesville alone so by raising the age there will be no need for all of those shops.
Customers now in areas that aren’t raised to 21 are still promoting and addictive device to young adults and are enabling them to be addicted. Vaping companies make so much money on making their product so addictive that’s how they are making so much money. By making the age 21 vaping companies will be stopped from their terrible products. The customers who have been using vapes and tobacco products that are under 21 will have to stop smoking or find it on black market. This opportunity is very big because it will make a difference in the country making us feel united and health regulations will be better. The window opportunity is going to be open until something bad happens which is inevitable because sicknesses are already arising so it better to make this change before it is too late.
Innovation
The way raising the age to 21 on tobacco products works is all states will adopt this law and we will make history as a country. We as students learn about prohibition and all the other important laws that were changed to make a difference and right now is our time to make that difference. Vaping and the use of e-cigs have become an increasing health problem from the fact that its more accessible and are able to do it anywhere. The scary fact about being able to use it all day long is people do and that can only become a health problem and since they have not been out long, we do not know the long-term effects. So, my hope is to make the younger population aware that vaping is not any better than smoking cigarettes and that if we see our friends and loved ones do it not to encourage them and make them aware of how dangerous they are. Making the country aware that vaping is not an alternative
I would say that this law changing the age is an incremental innovation because it is a market that already exist and is making small changes right now in some city but looking for a change in the country law.
Venture Concept
The reasoning behind the push for raising the law is the overall health of American especially worrying about teens and younger adults. I don’t think this law will be hard to pass because it is already getting passed in some cities, like Gainesville, we just have to make aware of how successful the cities are doing with the age being raised. Competitors are vaping companies that are competing to make the next product to that will blow up and be the new rage. Once the age is raised, they are going to lose a lot of business because they will be losing the customer base from the age of 18-20 which doesn’t seem like that much of an impact. Even though that 2 years being changed doesn’t seem like that much of a loss for vaping businesses it will impact their business a lot because that is the audience they are targeting. Once the laws are changed to 21 all of the United States will have to enforce the laws and make sure vaping shops are too.
The three minor elements
The secret sauce that I have is the passionate and the unity of the country. Having the law being raised will allow Americans to feel that their health is main concern that the government has, and right now is a good time to make a change.
After the law is raised, I want to see how that change has affected the population and see if vaping dies out or if younger adults just find different ways to access tobacco products.
In five years, I see that teenagers that are addicted to tobacco products will have decrease dramatically and that vaping companies will go out of business. If smoker is decreased among teens and younger adults, I will feel very successful about how the opportunity has developed and achieved.

For the feedback I received last time was pretty positive and that my venture concept informed them on how quickly vape shops began increasing and that there are so many vape shops in college town. My venture concept is overall still the same I added how I was going to get the law passed throughout the country by sending letters to senators and making a lot and making more people aware with public announcements and working with bigger companies.

28A Your Exit Strategy

Nov 20, 2019
1)Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children?
My exit strategy is to sell my business concept and I will sell the idea to all the states to raise the age to 21.
2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy?
The reason for selling the business once all states adopt the age of smoking tobacco to 21 is because this means that the business was successful and there is no need for to continue the business.
3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an opportunity? Has it influenced your growth intentions or how you plan to acquire and use resources?
My exit strategy has influenced other decision by preparing for all states to raise the age to 21 and once that happened I would be able to be successful.  My exit strategy represent growth in my business it because I’m selling it once all states have adopted it.

27A – Reading Reflection No. 3

Nov 19, 2019
1)What was the general theme or argument of the book?
I read Thinking, Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman and the general theme of the book was to that your brain has two systems and they fight over who control behavior and action. System 1 is automatic and impulsive while system 2 is very conscious, aware and considerate the two system are in constant battle of who gets control and that your brain is lazy and that’s why you don’t use all of your brain and sometimes when solving problems will use system 1 at first then resort to system 2 when they get the answer wrong.
2)How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
This book taught me to carefully analyze the work I am given and to leave my emotions at home. I think this correlate to ENT 3003 because it shows me to really look at the assignment we are given and to understand that I have to think harder and look at different outlets to improve myself in this class.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would give a couple simple problem and ask the class to solve them giving them 5 minutes to solve the three-simple problem. The trick is these problems are simple but most people when given these problems will use System 1 impulsive and automatic and will get the answer wrong. When they redo the problem system 2 conscious will kick in and they will get the problem right. This exercise shows that not to let your brain trick you and really carefully analyze things.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
The one thing that surprise me that system 2 hasn’t always been in our brain it is a “recent “addition to our brain thought process. It’s only a couple thousand years old and the reason we have gained this powerful thought process is because our prioritize have changes over the years from hunting and gathering to have to earn money and run a family.

26A – Celebrating Failure

Nov 18, 2019

Failure is a hard pill to swallow especially for me when I except perfection. Last year I took accounting, and this was the first time I received a C in a college class, which made me lose all hope about getting into UF. This class was very challenging to me and I couldn’t seem to do good on the quizzes and test. At the very end of the semester I had to accept that I was going to get a C and unfortunately, I had to take the second half accounting the next semester, so I was freaking out and losing faith in myself. I told myself that I had to work as hard as I could the next semester to prosper in the class. Since it was the same teacher, I knew how the class was set up and I study almost every day for the class I got involved in study groups I was began asking a lot of question in class and trying to be the best student. At the very end of the semester I received an A and I was so proud of myself because I showed that I am not a failure and showed myself that when I put my mind to it, I can succeed in anything.
This class me taught me that not all classes have to be so strict and structure that you can learn way more by looking outside the box. Also, this class taught me to not take life so seriously that not every entrepreneur is successful and failing is how you learn to take different steps to be successful.

25A – What’s Next? Submit Assignment

Nov 13, 2019

Existing Market

1.     The next thing for the health of teens and younger adults is to raise the age to 21 to stop big companies from targeting the younger generation with fruity flavors and fun packaging. With the laws being raised it will allow for dangerous products not to be in the hands of teens to become addicted.
2.     I interviewed three different people a friend of mine that is a vaper, a friend of mine that doesn’t vape, and a teacher in high school. After I interviewed them, I was surprised mostly by my friend who is a vaper she said that this law will help a lot of younger adults she said that she wishes this law existed already and then she wouldn’t have been addicted. She said that the next thing is to ban certain vape products. Another suggestion was to make all of the companies to go through very extensive health procedures and to let Americans know what goes in the vapes.
3.                 After the feedback I received vaping and e cigs companies need to go through health regulation and make Americans aware of what is going into the products.
New Market
1.     For my new market I will be dealing with smoke shops and how they make their money and one what product sell the best.
2.     The venture concept for a smoke shop is to market and find out what the people in your city want and products that might incise them.
3.     I interviewed two people that go to smoke shops on a regular basis and the other is a worker at the smoke shop.

4.           After I interviewed the two people involved in smoke shops, they explained to me that the nicotine is a big seller and that’s why a lot of people come in on a regular basis. The one that surprised me was since the age of buying nicotine has increase to 21 buyers have found an alternative and can buy CBD wraps since there is no tobacco in them.

23A – Your Venture’s Unfair Advantage

Nov 12, 2019

1.     There is a need for this law

V: Having an increasing number of teens vaping is a problem
R: No because the need has been adopted else where
I: It’s very easy to copy and that’s the hope is that all states follow in suit
N: since there is a need for teens to stop vaping other businesses will eventually follow

2.     This product will increase health in teens
V: With teens dying and getting very sick from vaping of some sort there needs to be a change.
R: Since vaping like juuling haven’t been around long we don’t know the long-term effects.
I: The service is encouraged to imitate
N: no one is taking this law seriously
3.     Unites the country

V: Everyone has noticed that vaping is the new thing for teens and college students, and that vaping constantly is a serious health concern
R: Yes, having the whole country adopt a law is big and shows unity and all states are doing it together
I: By imitating the country feels togetherness
N: This is the best alternative
4.     Vaping companies will get smaller
V: since vaping companies target areas that are mostly under 21, they will not get enough business for their unsafe product
R: Not rare before vaping blew up there were far fewer smoke shops.
I: With raising the age it will eventually decrease the vaping companies
N: Other companies can stay in business just have to think of different products because it will be a different audience.
5.     I have the need, so I see it first-hand.
V: being a college student when vaping blew up, I saw how quick they were being adopted and saw how addicting they were.
R: This is rare since we don’t know much about the long-term effects of the products.
I: This isn’t something that you can copy the law has to change.
N: since there is a need for teens to stop vaping other businesses will eventually follow
6.     It will get to a point where it’s too late
V: We learned our lesson with cigarettes and don’t want to wait and let everyone get addicted and create new health problems.
R: Its rare because we don’t know the all the health problems yet
I: By coping the law it will reduce the health problems
N: Companies will eventually all be following this once more health problems arise.
7.     21 should be the legal age
V: this is valuable because it makes the age of consumption of bad substances a more mature choice
R: This is rare because tobacco has also been 18
I: Again, encourage to imitate
N: This the ideal solution
8.     It affects everyone
V: the worth is that it will help mothers, friends, all feel healthier and safer country
R: This is rare because it helps everyone if it affects them personally or someone they care about.
I: It only will affect everyone if the law is copied by all states
N: since there is a need for teens to stop vaping other businesses will eventually follow
9.     The country deserves better health regulations
V: Having better health regulations is very important
R: The is rare but not impossible because having better health regulations is ideal
I: By raising the law health in teens will be better
N: This is best alternative than banning them completely
10.  I know a lot of people who are users
V: since I know people who are addicted it has a huge target on people who have never smoked tobacco with the fruity flavors.
R: companies keep coming out with new vapes to target cheaper products
I: if it is copied friends will have better health
N: it is the best solution
Overall, I think the resources that are the best are increasing health, unties the country, and the need of country. This all proved how important they are with the VRIN analysis.

22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoK_z220nJM

The feedback I received last time was to be more dynmaic so I shot the video outside and tried to be use more emphasizes on words. By this time I feel like I have gotten a lot more comfortable in front of the camera so I think this project really made me go outside my comfort zone.

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki

The overall theme of this book is the realization that social media needs to be incorporated in every business. Kawasaki goes on to say that the future generation that will be leading our businesses have grown up on social media and that social media should be used as a tool to enhance business operations. Then the book went on to talk about the ways to perfect and deciding on what to post saying that people, cookie monster, there are two ways to please people content creation and content curation. Content creation is original post, videos, blogs and content curation is content taken from other people and posting is to their page. This book connects with this class by proving that you have to be creative and look outside the box to succeed. That businesses aren’t all about tradition you have to look at new opportunities to be successful.
An exercise I would make based off this book would be to create the most catching post, it doesn’t have to be professional but what engages the most people. I think this exercise works because it shows how powerful a post is and see how much engagement a post can have. The most “aha” moment I had when I was reading this book was that Kawasaki suggested that every post is better with a picture to help readers gasp the concept.

20A – Growing Your Social Capital

Nov 1

Jeff is my roommate’s dad and he owns a gas station and he is my domain expertise because he knows who is buying and what products they are choosing. I got his number from my roommate and was able to call him and ask question about the market. He told me that he sees a lot “younger kids” buying juuls and vapes especially in his gas station because they are only 14.85 and it’s the cheapest place in town. He also explains why he gets a lot of a younger crowd because his gas station is right across the street from a high school. This interview proved my point that vaping age needs to be raised to 21 because Jeff seeing that many teenagers buy it they are already getting addicted.
Next I did a market domain was Stacy she is a manager at Modern Age Smoke Shop, and she is the one who is involved in what products to sell. I got in contact with her because I went to a couple smoke shops to see if I could talk to anyone and she gladly accepted. She told me puts out products that sell. She told me that she listens and marks what customers come in and ask for along with her regular customers. I thought this was interesting because she realizes a lot on customer feedback and by making her customers happy, she has been successful.
The third and last interview was also someone who works at the gas station I go to her name is Tamera  I did this because it was hard to get into contact with suppliers so I asked her some question on how often she gets shipments and she said every Tuesday she will restock and she said that they products they always is low by Tuesday is the Juuls. She went on to say that’s how it used to be since they raised the age to 21 in Alachua country she said her stock on Juuls stays a lot more and that they are going to decrease how many they get the following week. After interviewing Tamera, she proved my point by stating that most vaping consumption is done by teenagers and once the age was raised people stopped buying.

19A Idea Napkin #2

Nov 1

1) You. Who you are? What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically, regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?

I am a full-time student who works 20 hours a week as a server and I am very dedicated to both. I am passionate and caring about anything I do. My aspiration are to run my own hair salon. To raise the age to 21 it would take up a huge part of my life for a couple years until every state raised the age.

2) What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).

I am offering the country a safer and healthier place by raising the age of tobacco use to 21 all over America. This eliminates so much vape use in high schoolers and teens and hopefully decrease the use of tobacco use.

3) Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?

I think that this product has a variety of user ranging from teenage girls and boys to a 50-year-old man who is stopping cigarettes and switching to vaping. My customers all have in common that they are addicted to vaping so by raising the age to. 21 teenagers will hopefully not get addicted at such a young age and learn how bad it is before they are 21.

 4) Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.

Customers already spend an outrageous amount on tobacco products to cure their addiction so I am positive that teenagers will be pleased that they don’t have to spend waste all their money into a such a dangerous product.

5) What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?

The thing that sets me apart from everyone else is how much I care about helping other people, this service I would spend a lot of time and effort not even for the money but to help make America safer place. Also, I am passionate and put my all into anything I do.

The feedback I received previously was that I can’t banned the vape use overall, by raising the age to 21 this helps teenagers decide if they want to use tobacco by the time, they are 21 and they aren’t peer pressured. By changing the age this changed the a lot about what I wanted to say and promote, now I am focusing on helping teenagers not get addicted.

18A Create a Customer Avatar

Oct 24, 2019

It is very hard to fit the description of people who want to raise the age to 21 because my interviews have been with a variety of different people, however I would say that my customers is a women in her late 40s she is a teacher and is very passionate about helping kids.   Her hobbies would be helping kids and teaching and helping the community. The car my customer drives would be like a Honda CRV that is white, and they watch shows like America’s Got Talent and Fox News. This woman has two kids and they are 13 and 15 years old.
The things I have in common with my aviator is how passionate she is about helping kids and the community. That is the only thing that I can relate to with my aviator and I believe that it’s not a coincidence because someone who is in support of raising the age to 21 and wants to help is the reason why I am doing this topic.

17A Elevator Pitch #2

Oct 24, 2019

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYEMV8nkcmI

The feedback I received last time was most were in favor of my effort to change the vape laws, however I realized it wouldn't be realistic to ban vapes all around. This video I changed it to were all states should change the age to buy vapes to 21. Another comment I had last time was that vaping is an alternative to people who are trying to stop so I addressed that in the video. Overall I changed the message of the video in efforts to change the law to 21 this would help teens to not get addicted.

16A whats your secret sauce?

Oct 18, 2019
1.
Passionate, Motivated, Reliable, Creative, Generous
2.     Interviews:

·      Miriam: “kind, organized, out-going”
Miriam is my roommate and she used those three words she said that described me best. She said that those three things are what set me apart from other people and help me be successful.
·      Madison: “honest, driven, caring”
This is my other roommate and she said these three that describe me because I demonstrate them every day.
·      Bryce: “Loyal, smart, hardworking”
Bryce is my boyfriend and says that those are three qualities that set me apart from everyone else. He said that I am loyal not only to him but all of my friends around me and I put everything into relationships.
·      Laura: “Sweet, charming, thoughtful”
Laura is my mother, and this is how she would describe me saying that when I walk into a new room, I am charming, and I can talk to anyone in that room. She said that I am thoughtful and think about everyone when making a decision.
·      Grace: “creative, big-hearted, sociable”
This has been one of my best friends for over 6 years and she knows me pretty well. She said that I am creative and will see a blank canvas and turn it into art. She said the reason we have remained so close throughout the years is from my big heart.

After doing all five interviews it made me reflect on myself and when I am down or don’t think that great on myself these are how people would describe and that’s an awesome feeling. This excise made me realize how much of an impact we have on other people so to be kind to everyone. I believe everyone described me as I would describe me however when my mom said I was outgoing I don’t necessarily think that about myself so that was interesting to hear. Overall the interviews described me how I would describe me.

15A Figuring out the Buyer

Oct 18, 2019

After interviewing three people I have concluded that raising the age of tobacco use to 21 while help decrease tobacco use in teens. The alternative to this is banning the certain vape products or all products in general. In the beginning of my research I believed this was the answer and after putting myself in a tobacco user’s shoes, I concluded that raising it to 21 would have a good impact. Raising the use would help teens not get addicted to tobacco at a young age. The products would be purchased in stores and some vapes are available online my service will be used at the counter and making sure they are of age to purchase the product. The big thing on why consumers believe in the raising the age because it could have a positive impact on the population and a lot of people. All three people I interviewed agreed on the new age being 21 and says it will be safer for teens and harder for them to access it, they said the biggest competition will be between conservative states saying it will be harder for them to raise the age.

The tendency I have developed in this class is to is to make sure I watch the class videos this helps me learn about the assignments coming up and while I watch the videos, I take notes for the cupcake. Another tendency I created in this class is to always double check my URL submission to make sure it’s the correct because in the beginning I didn’t receive credit because I submitted the wrong URL. The last thing is that this class taught me to ask question about things and find opportunities and when I do I write them in my notes.
In the beginning of the semester I didn’t realize that things are due at 12pm therefore missing my first couple of assignments I thought about giving up because I was starting off with zeros in the gradebook. Instead of giving up I pushed myself because I knew I made a mistake and wanted to take accountably for it. I gained a tendency attitude because that helped me get things done in this class.

1.     Ask question. This is the most helpful thing I have learned in this class asking questions opens your mind up to opportunities you might not have seen before. This will help when creating a bug list.
2.     Be passionate. You want to be passionate about your opportunities because if you don’t believe it no one else will. This will help during the elevator pitches.

3.     Be accurate. This class is fun and not like regular classes if you are accurate with when assignments are due the class lectures then you will easily succeed.
